Sunday Remijius, now known as Abubakar, has narrated how he converted to Islam and the persecution he faced afterwards. He is also a Nasarawa State College of Education Economics Education graduate.

During an interview with the convert, he said that his colleague at Shoprite in Apo, Abuja, whom he identified as Ibrahim, influenced his choice of accepting Islam after noticing some good character in him, which Ibrahim claimed was attributed to Islam when Remijius asked him.

When asked how his wife reacted to him converting to Islam, he said that she told him that she wouldn't convert like him and she also reported him to his family. He noted that his father, who is a traditional title holder, said that he brought shame upon him by converting to another religion.

Speaking further, he narrated how he escaped death by the skin of his teeth after some of his relatives tried to kill him while praying and reciting a verse from the Holy Quran. In his words, he said "I was observing my Maghrib prayer in one instance and reciting Suratul Fatiha aloud when, all of a sudden, he felt a terrible blow from behind. When I turned, they were some of my relatives. They hit me with planks, iron, and anything they could get. I tried to fight back because I am a very strong person, just like Umar in Islam, but there were five of them. They hit me to the extent that I fainted, and they wanted to kill me. It was my mother that prevented them by throwing herself on top of me that day. "

He further narrated how he was bedridden for 6 months and had to pay a huge sum of money due to the beating he received from his relatives. Abubakar claimed that besides his mother, none of his family members assisted him when he needed money for treatment.
