Kidnapper arrest, STECHITEGIST
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says that five people were freed from the hideout of two well-known kidnappers.
The kidnappers reportedly took over a Power Link Transit Company bus going from Port Harcourt to Uyo. They then stole and took away five of the passengers.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Odiko Macdon, said that the kidnappers held the victims hostage in the Ikpe Annang woodland in the Etim Ekpo Local Government Area before asking for a ransom of N20 million from each of them.
“The five people who were kidnapped were taken deep into the forest at Ikpe Annang in Etim Ekpo Local Government Area. Their hands were tied and their eyes were covered, and they were each asked to pay a ransom of 20 million (20m).
“Based on reliable information, agents from the Ukanafun and Etim Ekpo divisions, along with the military, stormed their hideout on September 26, 2022. They killed two of the kidnappers, who were identified as Thankgod Ezekiel Udo of Ikpe Annang and Imo Okarafor John, also known as “Nkwokwo,” while others ran into the river with bullet wounds.

“Five people who were blindfolded and found were saved. Their names are Miss Blessing Elkanem, 19, Mr. Kingsley Elkanem, 23, Mrs. Chioma Gabriella, 25, Mr. Idorenyin Maurice Inim, 23, and Mr. Uko Clement, 39. While an AK-47 magazine full of bullets was found.
The PPRO also said that a group that was responsible for most of the thefts and car thefts in Uyo City had been caught.
